Hair accessories are not really my thing.
However I recently purchased a hair scarf (scrunchie combo) on a whim because I absolutely loved the color. Since purchasing said hair scarf I’ve changed my tune (a bit) on hair accessories.
In all honesty I’m shocked at how often I actually wear it. I’m pretty lazy when it comes to my hair (hence the messy bun every day), so a little accessory is probably a good thing. It adds the perfect amount of detail for an otherwise basic outfit.
This hair scarf was a recent purchase for me, so I haven’t experimented with it a ton, but I wanted to share the three ways I have been styling it.
Like I said, I’m not a big hair person, so these styles are pretty basic, but the good part about that is how incredibly easy they are.
Three Ways to Style a Hair Scarf
Dress-Up a Messy Bun
My go-to look with the hair scarf is to wrap it around my messy bun. This specific scarf comes with a scrunchie, so it’s the perfect combo to pull off this look. We all know messy buns aren’t as effortless as they look, but this just adds another element that makes the style feel more dressy.
Tie it Around Your Neck
Okay, so this isn’t really a hair style, but it’s still a way to style/use your hair scarf. Neck scarfs are having a moment and your hair scarf is the perfect piece to get in on the trend. Keep the look casual with a simple tank or tee and let the scarf be the show of your outfit.
Make a Ponytail Less Casual
I’m not going to lie, I definitely felt a little cheerleader with this look, but I actually love it. I have incredibly fine hair so my ponytails are always lacking. Adding the hair scarf stepped the look up a bit and took the attention of the lacking ponytail. It’s a pretty detail that paired perfectly with my spring eyelet dress. Full look: HERE
So next time you are looking to spruce up a hairstyle a little bit, I highly recommend reaching for a hair scarf.
This one I purchased from Free People is incredibly versatile and like I said before, the color is perfection. If you don’t love this color though, it does come in plenty of other options. I was actually considering purchasing the black one because I think it would be great for more dressier looks.
