Last Friday, Brandon and I packed our bags and headed up north for an overnight trip to Flagstaff, Arizona. We didn’t really have a reason for going other than to just get away for the night. However this overnight trip to Flagstaff, Arizona would most likely be our last experience with winter for the year, so we thought it was a good idea.
Since Brandon and I aren’t really skiers, we decided we were going to buy some sleds and find a hill. So the first thing we did once we arrived in Flagstaff was go to Target to find a sled. We then tried Walgreens. Then we tried Walmart…everywhere was sold out! It was a little annoying that the majority of our morning was spent hunting down sleds, but we finally found some at Big 5. Before sledding we went to lunch at one of our favorite spots in Flagstaff, Lumberyard Brewing. It’s a pretty low key place, but they have some really good beers and even better chili.
After lunch we managed to find what I’m pretty sure was the biggest hill in Flagstaff. We walked in knee deep snow to the top and started our sledding. Seriously, the hill was so big and the snow was so deep I was over it by the first trip down. On our third trip down I notice some police lights at the bottom of the hill by our car.
Brandon and I were the only ones there, so I was freaking out a little that we weren’t supposed to be sledding there. After walking allll the way down the hill, we discovered that several other people had decided to sled there too, but they all managed to get their cars stuck before they even made it up the hill. Brandon spent a good half hour helping people out while I played with someones dog 🙂 Ha! Needless to say I was not about to walk back up that hill for more sledding, so we just called it quits.
For dinner we ended up going to another brewery that our friends recommended, Mother Road Brewing. They don’t actually have food, but there is a pizza place next door, Pizzicletta, that you can order from. It was quite possibly the best pizza I’ve had in a really long time. So, so good! Brand of course hated it. ha!
Saturday, we got up , had breakfast, walked around downtown a bit and then decided it was time to head home. An overnight trip to Flagstaff, Arizona is always a great little escape. Every time I am there I feel like I am right back home in Michigan (with mountains). It was in the low 20’s the whole time we were there and there was a TON of snow. It was the perfect place to go and experience the last of winter.
